Cosmic Radiation and Radioactivity

Measurement and Monitoring of the Radiation Dose in the Atmosphere

Cosmic Radiation

The UFS Schneefernerhaus is the only research station at mountain altitudes worldwide that includes a Bonner sphere spectrometer to monitor secondary neutrons from cosmic radiation. The spectrometer was installed in 2005 by the Institute of Radiation Protection of the HMGU.  This kind of spectrometer allow for continuous measurements of both the intensity of secondary neutrons from cosmic radiation and their energy distribution.
