In the summer of 2018 the Bayerische Landesamt für Umwelt (LfU) operated 8 Malaise traps on the Zugspitzplatt area to collect insect samples.

In cooperation with the Zoologische Staatssammlung München and the Umweltforschungsstation Schneefernerhaus 44 samples were collected between June and October. Results from this survey were now published (Nachrichtenblatt der Bayerischen Entomologen, NachrBl. bayer.Ent 70 (1/2), 2021, S.49-71). Alltogether 8540 Butterflies were collected. A total of 168 species were identified, including two new records for the fauna of Germany, one being new for the whole mountain chain of the Alps.
