The AlpWeek Intermezzo is an international event, organized by the CIPRA and other alpine institutions, to discuss alpine topics with a strong focus on future problems.
This year it was planned for a three days meeting in Nizza (9. - 11. 12.), but due to the recent circumstances it was finally organized as an online event. It was nevertheless a big success, as over 350 people from eight different countries participated.
The UFS GmbH contributed with a session about the 'Alpine Water Tower' which intended to disucss future watermanagement problems that very likely will occur due to climatic changes within the coming decades. Prof. Dr. Ralf Ludwig, hydrologist at the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich, gave an introduction about the recent water availability and use in the Alps and different scenarios for the future situation.
Afterwards there was a vital discussion about the most important challenges, as well as potential strategies and needs to act. There was a consensus that education is key to takle future problems in a sustainable way.
For the session the UFS GmbH cooperated with the Interreg-Volunteer-Youth Program.
